Skimmer Question / Turboflotor 1000 MLS
I asked this question in the "New to Hobby" forum and didn't get any likely answers. So I will ask it here.
My skimmer does nothing but over flow the collection cup. I have an AM-Turobofloater 1000 Multi. It produces great tiny bubbles and foam. I have removed the two adjustment knobs and it still overflows the riser cone. I set my tank up this past weekend. I have a 120 gallon with 2-3" of sugar sand, some base rock (120lbs), and the salinity is at 1.026, the temp is 75 degrees. Will all this cause it to foam too much or is there something else that I'm missing? Any help is appreciated - I hope to add live rock as soon as I can ($). Hoping to do this in a week or two. The skimmer is a "HOB" model with the OR 2700. I don't think there is a way to turn down the pump - is there? And no there is no telescoping ability that I can tell. I was wondering if the salinity and the water temperature was causing it to over run the cone/waste cup. Thanks for your help!! SaltyNovice (aka - "still learning & feeling lost") ![]() |

Hi there fellow Cowboys fan! (I live in hostile Redskin country - northern VA). Glad that the S-hawks beat them.
I own two Multis (one for my 55 and another for a 44) - love them. Your unit should have come with a 2 inch, twist on neck extension that locks in at the top of the chamber, below the cup. That should solve your problem. Also, it takes a while for the skimmer to break in. Once it does, things will settle down and there will be less microbubbles in the chamber and more thick skimmate. Give it some time. |

Thanks for the help. I have put the two inch extender on below the cup, but it still overflows. So you suggest that I just turn it on and leave it on till it "breaks in" - am I understanding that right? I was wondering about possibly extending the clear tubing from the pump to the skimmer - any thoughts on that?
I figured there had to be a few Cowboy fans on here somewhere!!! ![]() ![]() Thanks again, SaltyNovice: |

How much is it overflowing? Initially, you may get about a gallon of very wet skimmate (if you have a high organics load) before things settle down.
If you get a LOT of skimmate continuously, see if you can raise the pump as close to the water line as possible (to get a better air/water mixture ratio) and see if that makes a difference. Also, it may be worthwile to clean the pump (especially the air inlet can get clogged with calcium/salt deposits). These are all things I've tried on my Multi with success. If none of these measures work, you may need to contact Aqua Medic in Colorado. Good luck. |
