Bubbles forming on live rock
I am hoping someone may have a suggestion as to why I am continually having air bubbles form on the upper layers of my live rock. It is not bubble algae; just plain old air. The tank is 2.5 months old. I do not have any macroalgae/green algae or diatom problems and am just beginning to see some positive coralline growth. I do use a skimmer in the sump but do not see any tiny bubbles coming back in through the water return. The bubbles are only forming on the liverock on the upper levels; not those mid or at the base. Any thoughts? I have "brushed" them off several times but they keep returning.
Thanks! |

it sounds like cyanobacteria to me, just not a really bad case about it. I wrote a sticky on how to get rid of it in the New To The Hobby forum (it'll be at the top). Hopefully that will help your situation.
Good day and happy reefing. |

or dinoflagellates, but you'd prolly see the algae also.
