Fastest $40 bucks I ever spent!

For anyone who derives pleasure from anothers misfortune...this is for you! I purchased 2 sexy shrimp from Live Aquaria.com because I have searched and searched and have not been able to find them in my LFS. I awaited eagerly for their arrival, aclimated them properly, and I dropped them into the tank. One proceeded to get caught by the current and drifted into the overflow -- the other dropped down and was happily caught by my Gold Stripe Marroon who ate him!!

I had a similar experience with two red cleaners and a flame hawk. He only gutted them and left them for dead. Took seconds to spend $50.

Eeek, I'm sorry. I don't derive any pleasure from that story. By "dropped them in", did you acclimate at all? But really not nitpicking, because sometimes you just can't predict what will happen...

I had the same sort of thing happen. Luckily it was only a $4 peppermint shrimp, but I brought him home, acclimated him, put him in the tank and my bicolor pseudo took care of him real quick. He would bite him and carry him around the tank. Tried to feed some extra food for the pseudo and that stopped him for a while. Got up the next morning to a dead shrimp.

Oh well. The fish is getting traded in anyway, as he also killed my tomato clown. He is the devil fish.

It took me a while to figure out that my springeri pseudo has a taste for shrimp eyes and legs. I feel your pain.

wow... I am sure we all have some stories like this... kinda stings the check book a bit.... Secret for me to 'drop in' my shrimps.... is to hold them in my hand and release them in the rockwork.... Hind site though is always 20/20.... Sorry for your lose.

Check you overflow - I have had a sexy shrimp survive in there for months before. If you look down there with a flashlight, you might find him. (Or in your sump.)

I posted a thread about something similar a few weeks ago.

I brought a peppermint shrimp home from the LFS. Acclimated him and put him in. My cleaner shrimp immediately started picking on him with his claws, then right before my eyes my Maroon Clown came over ripped the PS out of the grasp of the Cleaner Shrimp and feed it to my RBTA. Who ate the whole thing!!

Really sad, sorry for your loss!

This is a great point. I had a gumdrop goby that I could not find anywhere (but they are small and I had lots of hiding places). I found mine in the overflow as well, alive and well, probably been living there for over a week.

I can relate,
my wife saw this anemone crab ( like a big hermit crab) for $6
and put him in our tank,
the next morning I found that he had eaten about $120 worth of clams.

Gotta love it when your fish eat better than you do, huh?

I had a blue Lobster that killed three fish before I could catch him. Didn't know what killed the first two, and then I stayed up at night with a flashlight and watched him attack and kill the third. That was about $50 bucks down the drain, and a returned lobster to the LFS. Bastard was eating sushi while I ate Taco Bell!

I had the same thing happen with a cleaner shrimp. Went to bed and the next day he was gone. I did read somewhere that by lowering new specimens to the bottom of the tank can come times prevent these problems. Alot of fish, Triggers in particular mentioned in the article, believe what you are dropping in is food similar to feeding time.

I do feel you pain though.

I just got a coralbanded shrimp, when I released him into the tank, he ended up right by my pink spotted sand eating gobie. At least I think he is a goby, meaner than anything I have ever seen (except maybe my little brother's percula clown (Nemo) Now that is one attack fish, bit me like 50 times yesterday.) Anyway this fish tries to take my pinkie finger off everytime I have to work in my tank.

But the shrimp won the battle and took over his hiding place in the rocks. LOL It has been a little over a week now and the shrimp is still ruling the fish.
