sump
just got my pump and was wondering if my ideas to set it up are thought out enough...
filter socks on the drains from the tank to reduce micro bubbles flex tubing on the return and intake of the pump unions on the return and intake of the pump I am going from a rubbermaid to the pump...should I put a filter/screen to cover the bulk head going to the pump? |

I would ix nay the filter socks. They'll need to be clean VERY consistantly and often to keep organics out of the water column. Just let a good skimmer get ahold of the raw water and baffle the sump the best you can to keep the bubble from going back up. Also, you may want to try not to run the water through the sump too fast (by using a return pump just fast enough to make things work, not so fast as to rely on totally for circulation). Wouldn't worry too much about screening the bulkhead... could do major damage to the pump if something lodges in there and restricts any water going INTO the pump.

don't want to restrict the inlet of th pump. i would also consider spending the extra couple of bucks and getting a true union on the inlet that way you won't need to drain your sump to work on the pump. filter sock IMO should be avoided. utilize baffles as mentioned above. remember bubbles are mostly a cosmetic issue
