cyano problem, help

for the past 2 weeks, i been doing 5 gallon water changes on my 30 gallon display (with 10 gal sump) and nothing affects my cyano... just recently it started about 2 weeks ago, still up today, i siphon'd most of it out, and it came back the next day. its ****ing me off. i feed my fish 2-3 times a week now before it was once every other day. i have 2 false percs, 1 yellow wrasse, 1 cleaner shrimp and about 6 hermits and 3 snails. i have a euroreef 5-3 skimmer in sump, temp's at 81-82 never below 80, never higher than 82. 150watt 20k MH, 2 55watt actinics. MH on for 10hrs, PC on for 12 hours. 6 stalks of xenia and a couple batches of GSP, zoos, candycane, and shrooms. whats causing this? how can i stop it? oh, tank is about 6 months old.

whats causing this stupid problem? i have the saaaaaaaaaame problem in my 12 gal aquapod with 1 seahorse and 1 cleaner shrimp in there.

I don't know how good of a skimmer the euroreef is, but I cranked my skimmer up and finally discovered that this helped my cyano problem. I have very wet skimmate, but I would rather deal with that than cyano. Aggressive skimming will take out a lot of the nutrients that are feeding the cyano. That's just my opinion though. Lots of debate out there on what works and what doesn't. I had previously cut back on the feedings, directed lots of water flow around the cyano, dosed with chemi-clean (temporary fix), water changes, you name it, I tried it. Skimming is the only thing that made a difference for me.

I tried everything ever suggested here at RC on my cyno problem. I really mean it too, i tried everything for 5 months. Nothing effected it. FWIW most of the stuff ppl recommend for cyno is just pure speculation with no proven results. For example you have probably found one of the most recommended "cures" is to increase the flow. I have 50+X turnover in my tank. The cyno grew on the output nozzle of my Seio 820. Now if 820 gph of water blowing right at the cyno doesn't do anything to it...........you get the point.

Finally spent 8 bucks on some chemi clean, dosed it on a saturday evening, woke up sunday morning and all the cyno was gone. All of it. I left the chemi clean in the tank till monday evening when i did a 20% WC and turned my skimmer back on. That was 2 or 3 months ago and it has not shown up since. No livestock showed signs of stress. The only thing i'd highly suggest is adding an airstone to the tank while dosing.

Chemi clean is great, i don't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I have seen tanks that are going on 3 years now since using chemi clean once and still no sign of cyno.
