They work if you don't have a sump

I would recommend going with the Aqua-C remorah instead if you can afford the extra money. If you've got a sump then take a look at an ASM G1 skimmer for good performance and low cost.

its is one of the most under rated small tank skimmers. they are perfect for 30 gallon or smaller coral tanks.

i had one and theres a part where the inlet tube goes into the skimmer and locks the tube down to the pump " it has two locking tabs " well it was ok untell one tab broke and starting pumping micro bubbles in my tank and didnt skim at all. Now i have a aqua C remora but the overflow box that i bought is a pain in the arse.

red sea is what im using right now for my 75 gallon. i think its just about good for 75 gallon tank. i put my prizm in my 29 gallon sump . as what ive notice, it works better if you put it hang on the back of the aquarium. because when i move it to the sump, it didnt produce lots of stuff compared to when it was in the tank. prizm is great at about 75 gallon. bigger tank, i wouldnt recommend it. i would go with back pack protien skimmer because i think cpr has good products and reputation. when choosing protien skimmer, i learned that bigger is always better in this hobby. because that way if you want to upgrade your tank later.

The ASM mini is $100 from ASMskimmer.com (with the pump.) I believe that the Aqua-C remorrah runs around $275 from Marinedepot.com. If I were setting up a new 30 gallon tank again and I had a sump I would buy the ASM mini in a heartbeat.

I used the Prizm on a couple of nano tanks and did not think the skimmer did much except add micro bubbles to my tank. It also took constant adjustment to keep the right collection cup height.

After the Prizm I bought an Aqua C Remora and had much better results. The Aqua C is was not as quiet as the Prizm but it did skim much better.
