I did a similer setup for my 210. The water comes out of the overflows, gravity feed via PVC plumbing into the sump. I have my fuge/water change tank above the sump, fed by a pump in the sump and then returned back into the sump via a standpipe in the fuge (acrylic). Next to the sump I have a topoff tank that keeps water level in sump constant. Above that is a quarantine tank, kept independent of the whole system.

your setup would work just fine. There is no single way to do it. Some setup a system to gravity feed into fuge first then into main sump and then be pumped back up into the main tank. You could also have both in one larger tank divided up with acrylic sheets. Or you could just use a sump with skimmer.
