EcoSytem Sump

Just bought an used Ecosystem 3012 Sump from a friend. Picked it up cheap. I am planning on using this a fuge plumbed off of my main pump and fed back to the sump. So here is my question, should I purchase new miracle mud or should i just go with a dsb in it or bare bottom. Thoughts and other considerations appreciated.

Well I run that system on (little bigger) on my 160 gals, I dont need a fuge or a skimmer, That is whith miracle Mud, I spegehtti algae instaed caulerpa, Calcium is aroun 400ppm, Phosphate is Almost negligable and Nitates Nuttin as well, I have lots people discount this product, I have personaly talked to Leng the developer and his 400 gallon is awsome. I would dump the rest of stuff and just run the ecosystem.

Caulerpa can go Asexual and Populate a tank full of it, I have yet to see one But the reality is it can happen, Spegehtti algae does the same as Caulerpa but doesnt have that problem, Its prefvrence and piece of mind, They didnt outlaw 37 strands of Spegehtti algae in Cali so I figure Caulerpa maybe not that stable for my tanks, I own a Buisness related to This hobby and head the foundation for Oceanic Reef restoration, I get alot of this stuff on Newsflashes to my office, So it was for piece of Mind more then anything.

I had a 100 gallon with the 3012 and miracle mud for about a year and a half. It did really well without a skimmer for about 9 months then the water took on a yellowish tint that I didn't like.
I now have it on a 180 as a refugium with chaeto - this tank has a skimmer too. Both a skimmer and ecosystem work for me.

The miracle mud kept mag, etc. at opimal levels... so I think it does work well for that and trace minerals. I need to change out some of mine - wish it was cheaper!!!

It really depends on water quality and Algae use, The yellowish tint id from Algae bloom in the system ( fuge). It can be controlled by clipping the algae and toning it down abit, I have not run in a skimmer in so long I think MY seals dryed up on the skimmer, lol, I just may sell them at the garage sale this spring, I will tell ya this, I was as skeptical as the next guy about this system, But it has shown me I can rid myself of alot of equipment if I keep it . The only think I add to the system is Calcium. All other stuff is handled byt the Eco that is setup, so far 2 of my tanks have this system I will making the tanks(fuge) for the rest of them, I think its optimal for the reefer and the fish.
