Question Orbit fixture question

I just got my current USA orbit fixture and was wondering if anyone has used it without the legs? Can I do this or will the glass heat up too much? Also, Do you leave the acrylic splash lens on or off? Is this only for uncovered tanks?
I'd like to be able to set my fixture up on my 90 gallon just resting on the all-glass top without the acrylic lens.

The acryllic lens is there for people who don't have versatops on their tanks to prevent saltspray on the reflector/damaging the bulbs.
I used a current satellite fixture a while ago without legs, and my coralife fixture is currently being used without any legs.
Shouldn't be a problem to use it without legs, and without the lens as long as your tank is covered with another splash guard of somesort.
