water set up
do you really think using tap water will effect tank set up in long run or can i just use some conditioners with tap water ??

A lot of it depends on your water. I've known people running well water with outstanding results. For the bulk of us, RO/DI is the way to go. When we first started many years ago, we had no end of problems with hair algae, but it would come in waves every 3-4 months. I mentioned it to our hottub guy once and he explained that our city water is pulled from three different aquifers. At least one of them had extremely high silicates which drove our algae problems. They were quite familiar with the problem given their business.
Since switching to a good RO/DI unit, we've never had algae or water quality problem. The best thing you can do is test your water and see where it's at, but you also have to consider whether it's worth the risk to your tank to use crappy water. -Doug |
