Unhappy sand bed rumor

i heard you have to replace your SSB every now and then. i really don't want to do this. i will have some conchs, cucumbers, and scavanging snails and shrimp. it will be 1" deep. so do i really need to chnage the sand. it will be very fine-grade.

Hi,

I have had the same sandbed for 6 years and it's loaded with life.
I never heard of changing it every so many years.

you dont have to change it just add more to it if it dissolves over the years

it has a halflife (aronnite) of about 5 years (it will dissolve to hlf the amount over this time in a normal system)

Yeah, don't believe the exploding sandbed hype; it's an internet urban legend put out there by people who blamed their substrate instead of bad husbandry when things went downhill.
