hang-on refugium on sump?
i'm working on a 92g corner reef tank and using a 20g high tank for a sump. i want to use an in-sump skimmer, probably an ASM G-2. The problem i'm running into is i want to incorporate a refugium but would end up with very small sections -- 4" wide refugium section and 5" wide return section. I was considering using a hang on refugium. i know it would still be small but it would allow a bigger section for the skimmer and return so everything wasn't so packed in.
Has anyone used a setup like this? Could i have the refugium pump pull the water up from the skimmer section and overflow into the return section? Thanks for any help. |

I am working on a system like that right now for my 120g. I am using a Ecosystem 60 on the back of my sump. I have two 1" drains from my main tank and I am teeing off one of them to feed my refuge. I drilled my sump and my refug to accomadate a 1" bulkhead to return from the refuge back to the sump. I know that the Ecosystem 60 is only rated to 60 gallons but I figured that it would be better than nothing plus I didnt want to put a refuge section in my main sump because of the high water flow.

do you think having the refugium overflow into the return would affect the water level in any way as far as evaporation and water top off in that section? i'm thinking no, but i'm new to this and not sure.
also, how high do you think the water would need to be in the sump in order for one of the CPR hang-on refugium powerheads to pull the water up into it? |
