I just got a copperband now what?

I just came across a copper band at a good price so I picked it up on the spot. Any tips to this type of fish?

Well one thing im going to say is to always research a fish before you buy it. heres a quick link and some info to read:

Hope it lasts. They are very deliberate feeders. It will likely pick at your rocks constantly. Prepare not to see feather dusters much anymore, etc. I would recommend feeding more than once a day.

I just got mine last Friday. I started off by feeding it frozen brine shrimp which is what the store owner was feeding it for me when I asked him to feed it before I bought it. I also have been feeding it frozen mysis shrimp. I feed it every 3-4 hours without fail. It may not eat for a day or two but keep trying to feed it by squirting one or two of the above into the tank at a time and remain still and don't make any sudden moves. I think this is key in getting them to eat. Again, remain still or it will concentrate on you and what you are doing and not the food. Today after feeding it mysis for 4-5 days straight it would hardly touch the stuff so I got the brine shrimp back out and he is devouring it like no tomorrow. Keep it varied so he doesn't turn his snout up at one type of food and dies. Hope this helps, Jeff

My copperband loves live little-neck clams from the grocery. I sometimes buy him the middle-neck ones too, they're larger, and all the other fish take part in the feeding. Try the clams first, they eat them in the wild.

I freeze the clams, and when i need one, i wash it off, crack it open and stick it in the tank. My copperband is trained to come to the tongs as soon as they hit the water.

I would like to get one but its hard to get them to eat. Im waiting for a LFS to get one in and have it eat before i buy one.

I also have one. They seem to pick at frozen or live brine. They don't seem to like flake food. JD

Good luck, mine didn't make it, even thought he did start eating a little bit but he was realy skinny. Have you tried clams on the half shell?
