My mini is kind of @ a standstill when it comes to skimate. I am thinking that the pump that the mini comes with is a little undersized. I spoke with Todd @ Global Aquatics and he is going to ASM tomorrow to discuss this exact cituation and is going to get back with me on 1/31/06. I will let you all know what the outcome is.

I thought that the sedra 2500 would be a good upgrade pump for the skimmer, and I asked if this pump would be TOO MUCH!!!

So tommorow, hopefully, I will get some info!!

To whoever want's one of these I highly recomend you DO NOT order from GLOBAL AQUARIUM SUPPLY. They @#$% (*^. I ordered one a week ago, they took my money right away but yet still haven't shipped it . I've called every day and all I get is the answering machine. I leave a message and there to busy to call there customers back POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE if you ask me. I've even emaild them with no response. Also on the website it doesnt say anything about it being on back order. MY suggestion is look elsewher for the skimmer if you want one

Call your credit card company and have them sort it out. Tell them you have ordered something and never recieved the product. They will cancel the order.

wow- thats horrible! totally out of line and uncalled for- sounds like a damn ebayer with 50% positive feedback......

now there is a possiblity that these skimmers are backordered throughout various vendors, but still- they should at least notify you and arrange a refund. you may wanna enter into the vendor experience forums as well and submit a complaint to warn others.

perhaps the place is run by a bunch of chimps- email responses dont happen to often, and packaging a skimmer can be a chore.

I purchased the mini skimmer and now am not totally happy with the skimmer performance and I know asm and global aquatics know about the possibility that the pump on the skimmer is too small. Todd fom global was suppose to get back to me two day's ago, but I have heard nothing, I will keep you posted.

I recommended that they use the sedra 2500, but I do not want to purchase a 60 dollar pump and have it be too much.

I hope he gets back to me, or I 'm READY TO MOVE ON!

I would say get your money back, until you hear good things about the skimmer

well I finally got mine 4 days ago, Hooked it up and so far nothing. No skimmate at all?

What depth should these run in? Right now I have it set up at 6" of water depth should I raise it or lower it?

What will they do if they find out you need a larger pump ? Trade up I hope so

NO. This would be way too small for that. I had a EuroReef 5-2 on my exact set-up and it kicked butt. I would reccomend that or its ASM cousin.

I have the mini up and running and I am getting good skimmate production finally. if you look at my gallery you can see the mods that I made for the skimmer. I run the skimmer in 6 to 8 inches of water and it seems to be working well. one of the other keys is you also need to have the riser tube set @ the center of your collection cup or about 1 inch above the green band on the skimmer, where the body meets the cup. You can also look @ my gallery, and that is the exact setting's I use to run the skimmer. thus making very minor adjustments, to get the skimmate dryer or wetter, whatever you prefer.

tagging along, i just put in an order with global for a mini, hope everything goes right. especially since i need the skimmer ASAP. i contacted ASM with a bunch of questions about the pump and size tank. all i got back was its rated for a 55gal nothing on the pump. i was thinking of ordering the recirc mod from ASM and seeing if that improved the contact time, maybe using a small maxijet as the feed pump.
