Don't you hate soup slurpers!?!

How do you get rid of the gurgling, slurping caused by the overflow? It is the overflow from the display into the sump. I have 1 1/2" pipe right now which is being fed about 900 gal/h. It is drawing enough air to create micro bubbles to drive a protien skimmer.
I just tried to reduse it down from 1 1/2" to 3/4" thinking it will restrict some volume and slow it down, but it's still the same.
Thanks for your wisdom.

do a search on the durso standpipe. It is a very popular mod that will quiet down most overflows.
