Worth the money?

Okay, so I have been waiting for my finicial situation to get stable and then I would be ready to purchase a reef setup. I wanted to start from scratch and have everthing brand new, but I saw this for sale and talked him down to $500.00. I was going to be getting a 90g but this 160g might be the way I am going to go.

Here are the pictures of the tank, I already talked to a LFS and they will give me credit for his fish and LR, since I did not want what he has.

Let me know what you guys think. Oh, my finicial situation is perfect now, I have no debt and plenty of cash, so I would have been buying my tank and everthing come March.

pics work now, looks like a great deal, i would look into adding some whiter light to the tank, liiks almost like nothing but actinics over it, but that may just be the pics.

i also suggest keeping the live rock.... What lights are on the tank..... Lighting for a reef is very important

if it has a nice skimmer, lights and enough live rock then go for it. live rock is what you definatly want to get with the deal the more the better.

The most important thing is the tank. If the tank is well built then it is a good buy. This should free up money to buy some sweet equipment

I will be getting the 6X80W T-5 ice cap retrofit, for the lights and a G-4 skimmer, I know those two things will be a for sure buy from the setup.

So I guess I will be also keeping the LR too!

Thanks for all your responses, I'll keep you guys updated on the purchase. I do have to call and ask if it has a built in overflow.

It does not have an external overflow, you can see the box in the pictures.

The G4 skimmer alone is $350 new. And the T5 with the icecap are probably worth $6-800.

$500 for everything is def. worth it!

No, I meant that I would buying those items. I called the guy and its a hang on overflow, is what he said. I could tell that he does not really know what equipment he has.

Do you guys think that the G-4 skimmer and the lights that I choose we be a good idea?

I know that I really want a built in overflow, what are the steps that are needed to have a built in overflow, I live in San Diego and I have a lot of LFS, so maybe they know a company that would take the tank and put an overflow in it. I know there is some drilling involved and don't have the tools or the experience to drill the glass.

The rock in the tank is lava rock, the branches that look like Tonga are fake and bought from PetCo. So I wont be keeping any of the rock.

The lights and skimmer you're looking at are both good items in my opinion. Of course I have a G2 and I'm going to be getting some T5 lights!

As long as the tank isn't made out of tempered glass you're alright to drill it. If it's tempered glass it WILL explode when you go to drill it.

Junk the Lava rock you don't want that in your tank. To many metals in it.

To be very honest, I am nervous about how big the tank is. I have been reading a for like 3 months and been talking to a lot of people, and have a good footing for starting a reef, but I was even nervous about a 90g.

I guess I'm worried that the costs associated with the 160g is going to be a lot more than the 90g. I do live right near the ocean and we have an institute called Scripps that has filtered ocean water for free, and a lot of people down here use it for their reefs, so I don't have to worry about the cost of salt. I guess I am just a little worried. I am VERY VERY excited but I always second guess myself. Any opinions on how much more difficult it would be to take care of a 160g than a 90g?

Oh, and he called me back and the said the lowest he would go is $700.00. Still worth it?

Still very much a deal. I paid almost $400 just for my tank alone (new - All Glass RR 120).
