moving DSB?

I'm moving my 10g to a 29g. I heard in the past that you cannot use your old DSB because it releases toxic, is that true? Or can I just scoop the top few inches of the DSB and still use it?

It is safe to use the top inch or so and transport that, however once you get any lower you'll most likely run into toxic areas that shouldn't be used. You can always rinse the lower levels or just purchase some new sand.

well in a 10 gal a DSB is useless, you need at least 2'x2' for it to work. I don't even think it would be worth it in a 29 gal, i would just go with a SSB and the added water valume would benifit your tank more than a tiny DBS which is useless in such a small tank.

is there a link with more info on the minimum size for a DSB? i was never aware of it. i do see plenty of life in my DSB in a 10g, plus it looks much nicer.

i know southdown sand at home depot could be used for a DSB but anyone familiar with the sand they sell at toys r us? i think it's the sand used for children's sandboxes.

What do you consider a DSB? Most people think 6-7" is a DSB

you should go to the nano forums and ask about DSBs and nano aquariums and they will be able to give you alot of info on it.
