Before you look at my list, please note I AM NOT GOING TO PUT ALL THESE FISH IN AT ONE TIME! Nor am I planning to even add all these fish over a long period of time. (too many for a 55 gallon) This is just a beginner list of things I think might work well. All suggestions or comments more than welcomed! BTW...I just want to say thank you to all the people who even got me to this stage. I'm probably about 2 months from planning on adding fish. Want to make sure I do it right. Thanks, Justin Last edited by Reggae Fish; 02/26/2006 at 11:29 PM. |

i would go a little heavier on the LR. Seems like you've done your homework, though. Fish all seem compatible. I would think twice about the tang. why put it in when You'll just have to take it out in a few months or a year. You'll be so used to seeing it that when you take it out the tank will seem...bleagh.

I love the tang! I know and I hate it but tt's one of my main reasons for going SW
Even if I have to get a new one each 1-2 years, to me it's worth the work of having it in there all the time. I even worked out a little deal today with the LFS regarding just that. I don't like the look of too much rock however, I plan on doing quite a bit of coral, so maybe I should. However, I might have to get a few peices here and there because I don't have that much money for rock. |

I think the detritivore and cleanup crew is far too large. Maybe one cucumber for the tank, and skip the starfish. If you like them, they're fine to have, but they'll need to be fed, and add more load. Likewise, I would drop all the hermit crabs.
I wouldn't put a tang into the tank, especially the powder blue, since they're hard to keep in general. Catching the animal is not necessarily going to be easy, and they are very active animals.

The Catalina goby is not a tropical fish and will not survive in the high temperatures of a reef tank (according to Fenner's Conscientious Marine Aquarist). Also think about setting up a quarantine tank about 6 weeks before you hope to add fish - this will give it a chance to cycle before it is needed. I just had my first fish die in quaratine yesterday - v. upset that it has died but relieved I took the trouble to quarantine otherwise my main display would now be infected and I'd probably have to remove all the rock to catch the other fish.

"Although it will tolerate a tropical water temperature, (76 to 78ºF), the Catalina Goby prefers the cooler temperatures associated with the island where found, Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles, California. Temperatures there range from 60 to 72ºF" Regarding a quarantine tank, I don't really have the money to setup a 2nd tank, regardless of the size. That is why I'm taking everything very very slowly. I will add probably only 2 fish at a time. Any suggestions regarding a quarantine tank? What about that Nano Cubes? Are they saltwater ready (skimmer, return, etc...) |

The Nano Cubes don't have a skimmer, but they should make a fine quarantine tank, although a little pricey for the job. I actually use an Eclipse 12g, since I like the acrylic better than the glass for distortion.

How does it filter then? Does it just use a bio-wheel. Is that sufficent?
What should I do for an emergency tank since I don't have the money to do another setup? |
