Looking for feedback... pics of my tank
I got a 72 gal bowfront that is 2 months old. It has 80 pds of FL live sand, 70+ pds. of Marshall Island rock. I only have two tomato clowns as far as fish goes. I have added some hairy mushrooms, green zoo's(no pics yet just added), a frogspawn (just added), and when I bought the tank I salvaged what I was told is a devils hand but not sure, if anyone knows what it really is by the picture let me know. It is still a project in the works. I thought I would put some pics on here. I am looking for ideas to make my tank look better. I need to add some kind of backing. I was going to paint it but I am worried about doing that since it is set up. I have a Remora Pro skimmer, two maxijet 1200's and that is it. I am thinking of converting a wet/dry filter that came with the tank into a sump or refugium, or maybe keeping it to run carbon thorugh if ever needed. Please let me know what you think. Also this is my first time posting pics, hope it works.
Thanks, beerdrinker[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

Sorry for the size of the pics I am still learning about that. Also I already removed the wood bracket thingy holding my MH light(400 watt, two 32 watt PC actinics) I used an articulating LCD TV wall mount that works great I would recomend for anyone that can't think of a way to hang there MH lights.

Looks good. The only thing I would do different is move the rock off the back glass a little. It will add more swimming space and aid in getting flow behind the rock. I like all the holes and caves you created.
I would also suggest getting rid of the Rio on your skimmer and replace it with a MagDrive or even an OceanRunner just for saftey reasons. |

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking the same thing about the rock, but wanted to keep the same look I created. That can be one of my weekend projects. Also what size or model number magdrive or Oceanrunner would you recommend.

Look at what GPH the Rio is rated for and get the one that coresponds with the GPH. I would try an OceanRunner or an Aquabee on the remora. It would add a real needlewheel impeller. And IMO add to the skimmer's performance. |

Another thing, the tank has a plastic piece that runs right down the middle of the tank, to hold the glass top. I was thinking of removing it, however does it give any supprt to the tank or is its only function to hold the glass top? I do not like the shadow it puts down the middle of my tank.

You cannot remove it, it will compromise the tank's integrity. There is a modification out there, where you cut the obtruse plastic and replace it with clear plexiglass and plactic wingnuts. I do not have the nuts to do it myself. You could add another halide to even it out. The general rule for halides is one for every 2'x2'.

The polyps on the one I have are not very pronounced, very small. I will have to get a better pic of it.

SDguy,
Looks similar to the bottom pic (left hand corner) thinner branches, although the polyps do not even open up that big, maybe they are supposed to and have not yet though? Nice looking pic, what is the pink coral with feathers? |
