unfortunately, we dont know how knowledgable the buyers were.

my gf's dad still thinks jenson is a top line speaker manufacturer.

thats why i figured id look here and see if anyone had some hands on info. if they are good, some rc member must have bought some, or known someone who has. i hope.

I'd stick with live aquaria 89.99 for 45 lbs and you know who they are.

they dont have that in stock,

and if they did, for any of there rock to me, its another $70, it better be some nice rock.

i remember reading a thread recently where lots of people ordered some rock and it was all broken. gotta find it. i think it was live aquaria though.

Premium Aquatics, Dr. Macs (Pacific East Aquaculture), and of course, Tampa Bay Saltwater, all get very high marks.

From the reactions I've read, Live Aquariua has gotten mixed reviews on their live rock, while their livestock is excellent.

i have actually heard the exact opposite....they are good with rock and poor with livestock...when i mean livestock i mean corals...i havent ever ordered fish but i have friends that have gotten some pretty rotten stuff they were calling super colored acros...tell them you want a pic of the box of rock you are getting...from there its only a matter of shipping that can go wrong...dont even get me started there...i personally would recommend either getting it locally either lfs or someone selling some in your area. i honestly would never feel comfortable ordering unknown rock from an unknown source. i would much rather see it in person and pick it out. if you cant do that at least get a picture so if something did go wrong you have some proof...without seeing it they can send you whatever and they arent really wrong unless they deliberately said something otherwise...to sketchy for my money...HTH

To elaborate on Live Aquaria: While folks may have gotten bad livestock (corals, fish, inverts, whatever), Live Aquaria, which has had excellent customer service, replaced the defunct livestock. I've read that Live Aquaria has replaced bad (as in dying) live rock too. But most people say that even when it's alive it's not particularly full of life.

Of course, nothing compares to Tampa Bay Saltwater for the amount of life, but people who have bought Premium Aquatics rock always seem to feel that they've gotten an excellent amount of life for the price. This is particularly true if you live near Indiana and they can ship via ground.

Dr. Macs is in the northeast somewhere. If I lived near them and could get ground shipping, I'd do that too.

I strongly recommend the Marshall Island rock from Premium Aquatics. Not a ton of life, but great corraline and the rock structure and porosity is amazing. Also, when you don't get a ton of life like some of the Florida rock, you also tend to avoid bad hitchhikers. In fact, I saw only one aptasia, no mantis, no evil amphipods, and no gorilla crabs. Had some small hermits and tiny snails. Also, since the rock is porous and light, I had trouble squeezing 45lbs in my 40g.
