Rock on glass
Hey everyone,
Due to the recent misfortune of my tank dying I have decided to start planning for the new setup and have a question. Is it unwise to let your rock touch the glass? I have a 55 gallon long and it is so narrow that I would like to push the rock up against the back glass. I know cleaning the back may be a little difficult. As for water flow I have built a spray bar that points up and sits along the bottom so that will keep the water moving back there. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this? Thanks. Josh |

As long as you're careful, it'll be okay, but you might end up scratching the glass, breaking it (perhaps) or having circulation problems. I wouldn't do it, but I'm sure someone's done it with no problems.

Sounds OK to me. I do it. Just don't put excessive weight leaning against it.

the way I understand it the main reason to keep the rock off of the glass is to prevent detris from building up due to the flow being restricted. I have a 55g and it seems near impossible to keep the rocks from touching the glass.

Good points. I didn't really plan on the glass to actually bear any weight of the rock I just wanted the rock to touch it in some spots.

Okifish, Do you plan on adding coral later on? If so, let me know. I can hook you up with some mushrooms and some zoos. I have plenty in my tank and prefer to give it away instead of selling it just to create interest in the hobby. Just make sure you have lighting that will sustain the life.

Thanks Jeff that sounds great! My lights should be here within the week. Mind you I don't have water in my tank, but I will have lights D@MN IT!

Don't worry, I have a couple tanks to hold them until you are ready. I just gave a bunch of stuff away to another friend but still have quite a bit left. Mushrooms and Zoos grow so fast in my tank they over take everything. I read the story of you killing your tank. Sorry but I had to laugh on that one.
