New Tank!!

Just got my new 55 gallon RR tank. The question is, If I use the rock from the old tank and a couple of cups of sand from the old tank, could I go ahead and move all of the livestock as well? I have added 40 pounds of new "live sand" that I bought while picking up the tank. The old tank is about six months old and with the exception of some hair algea it is doing great( hair algea problem is taken care of and going away). I have 2 false percs, Lawn mower blenny, a small candy cane, some musrooms on a rock, some GSP, mutiple snails and hermits. I would really like to get the swap done but I don't want to loose anything either.

Thanks for the advice.

Sure that's not a problem. I upgraded my 55 to a 125 plus sump/fuge. I used all the rock, new sand and used as much water from the 55 that I could. I also rinsed off my rock in some of the old salt water before I out it in the new tank(I just swished the rock in a bucket with a small amount of water so I could save as much for th new tank as I could).

Here is a link on how I did it. Page 3. I also used garbage to fill the new tank. Had no sand cloud .

Oh I did add two stockings with old sand from my 55 to seed the new sand. I left the stocking in there for 2 weeks then removed them.

I would say yes. But there is still a one month wait prior to adding anything new. ( add your existing fish but nothing new) I have done this before and I think it takes a wile for the new tank's glass etc to get a nice slime coat and settle down.

sounds like you are having fun!
Good luck!

I added everything the same day. Rock, fish coral, anemone, inverts. Nothing seemed to be bothered at all. I know several others that have added everythign the same day as well with no problems.

By my response I was trying to say: do not go to the fish store and buy a bunch of new fish to stock the tank Yes add all the contents from your other tank just do not try to add much else at first.
