What do people use for insulating a retrofit from the canopy?
I don't know if I am being to cautious or not, but I heard that for a metal halide retrofit that would be attatched to a wood canopy is that there should be some type of insulation between the retrofit light and the wood canopy to prevent a possible fire. Is this true, and if so what types of insulation do you recommend.

I've never had anything besides an additional piece of wood to create an air gap between the reflector and the hood. I suppose if you were really worried about it, a shallow socket could be used for additional space.

With all the retros I've installed, I've always used a couple of wooden stand offs to space the retro away from the wood cap a little. !.5" is sufficient. It also allows you to hide cords behind the retro for a cleaner look.
Good luck. |
