Cleaning a Skimmer

What would I use to thoroughly clean a skimmer? I want to let it soak in something, but I'm not sure what to use. Any suggestion? It's an AquaC Remora.

a little bit of vinegar in some water and an old toothbrush should do the trick

Ditto white vinegar works wonders, any concentration will be fine as long as you rinse it well. Soaking it will also remove coraline if any had grown.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?
