A big fuge. Don't get a wet/dry trickle filter, live rock does just as good a job. Also, trickle filters become a nitrate factory. I have one that is 6 years old and i'm getting ready to chuck the bio balls and convert the filter to a fuge.

You don't need any filtration if you have a good skimmer. My nitrates are zero now that I got rid of the bio-balls and crushed coral.

Filtration will remove pods, which you really want.

If you still need a polisher just put some filter pads in for a few hours and then chuck them.

Yes, but a fuge has many advantages. Besides keeping nitrates and phopshates low, it provides a source of food for tangs (macro algae) and a safe haven for pods to grow. I think they are worth it.
