There are different considerations about the configuration of the sump that you might want, like will you have part of it used for a refugium...will you have a skimmer inside...etc. Take a look at

www.melevsreef.com

for some good info on sumps and what they're all about.

I couldn't find a link for that Berlin sump that you mentioned....Do you have a link so we can get a look at it?

I sure wish i could build my own. I have been in contact with Marc about one also. This all is pretty new to me. I'm moving up from a starter 24gal Nano.

I guess it would be all right, I'd just point out that there doesn't seem like much room for a refugium section. That may not be a possibility if there isn't much room available to you, though. The other thing is, that you most likely would want to have foam between the section of your sump where the water exits your protein skimmer and the section where you keep your sump-return pump. Otherwise, it's very possible that micro-bubbles will reach your tank. That's, in fact, what I needed to do to prevent the micro-bubbles from getting into my reef. I'm not certain, from what's said at that page, whether you can do that. The foam, it seems, has to be removed to make room for a return pump. I may be wrong about that, but look into it.

Thanks Avi. What do you think about All-Glass sumps. Model 3 seems to be a pretty go size.

Building a sump/refugium is so much easier then most people think.

1. Get a glass aquarium the size you want for the sump

2. Design the sump/refug the way you want it

3. Goto your local glass shop & have them cut 1/4 pieces of glass the sizes you want for your bulkheads, baffles, bubble traps etc.

4. Completely clean the aquarium using denatured alcohol

5. Place your pieces of glass in the aquarium & hold them in place using pieces of stryofoam

6. Generously apply silicon (100% rubber silicon used for doors & windows, not the sink & tub type) to the seams of the glass & aquarium.

7. W/ light pressure using your index finger, push the silicon into the joints the same way you do when applying caulking

8. (& most important IMO) LET THE SILICON DRY FOR AT LEAST 48 HOURS BEFORE REMOVING THE STYROFOAM OR MOVING THE TANK.

That's it.............You have your own custom sump/fuge & you havent donated hundreds of dollars to your LFS....
