live rock/coraline algea help

I've got a 130 gal tank with garf style base rock just the way I want it. I've got 4 54W t-5 HO over it. It's time to add some live rock. I was wondering if it would be ok to try to get small rock/rubble and seed the base rock with it instead of putting more large pieces in. Also I don't have much in the way diverse flora/fauna in the tank, will I pick up a bunch of critters with rubble, and how much should I put in to start growing some coraline algea?
