Can snails are any other inverts carry Ich?

I was under the impression Ich can only infect fish but someone told me to check my snails for ich before I put them into my tank.

They cannot be infected by ich, but ich can live on them or in their shells. Ich goes through a reproduction phase where it drops off into substrate. So if it drops of onto a snail or in a shell which is then tanken by a snail or hermit then can "carry" it.
