Exclamation Quite return pump needed

Ok, I just set up a new tank. It's a 72 G bowfront w/ a 29 g sump. I first got a Rio hyperflow 32, 1500 GPH for a return pump. It was making way to much noise and was vibrating the 3/4" return line. So I went back and got a 17, 880 GPH and used the 3/4" built in return line this time instead of going over the back. The vibrating nosie from the plumbing stopped but the pump still makes a lot of noise. I even have the rubber mounts on it. I removed the plumbing from the pump and held it in the water, not touching anything and yes it's the pump that's making the loud hum.

So I'm looking for a good submersible pump that will flow about 900 GPH and I can put a 3/4" line on. So what's the quiest pump out there? I'm talking wisper quiet.

go with the eheim 1260 (635gph) or 1262 (900gph). I use the 1260 and its quiet. I did have the 1262 as my sump return but it was too much flow for my 58 gallon.

What, that huge tank is not enough for you? LOL

Sorry, don't know much about submersible pumps.

Hey Ray, the Eheim 1262 is getting a lot of good press here on RC. It seems to be exactly what you are looking for. I am thinking about picking on up myself to replace my Mag 7 to get some more flow through my sump and into the tank.

Naw, we needed to upgrade the old 45.

Actually we have a small entryway that she had been wanting to put a bowfront in ever since I scraped the idea of putting a 190 in there and got the 400. The 72 fit's nicely in the space and looks good. Bad part is the pump noise whihc seem to echo thru the hall and into our bedroom. We sleep with the door open so it's a bit anoying.

Funny part is, she had talked about moving the 45 hex into the entryway on Saturday. I told her that I had just saw the bowfront she had been wanting down at the LFS on Friday. She decided to forgo a plazma flat TV for her new sunroom and get the tank instead. Gotta love that. Now the 45 is up for sale.

I guess I'm on the hunt then for a ehiem.

Rich, if you want to increas some flow in the tank, just add in some eductors. That's what I'm doing vice a high output return pump on this tank. Seems to work well.

I really want to push a little more flow through my sump. How much are the eductors?

They were 35 bucks I think at Tat's. That's for one that has a 3/4" screw in for PVC pipe and can also add lockline to it betwen the connection and the eductor.

The eheim won't fit in my sump. I need something that's the size of the Rio Hyperflow 20.

Are you sure? They are noisey though. AS I've said, I've got a 17 and a 32. I'm going to try and return them today and see if I can get my money back. If not, are you interested?
