Atlanta Aquarium

Has anyone been to the Atl.aquarium yet?
The New York time did an article/review on it today and kind of trashed it for having too little imagination and information.

Any thoughts ....

There is a thread somewhere here that has a ton of pictures from the different sections of the aquarium. I have been twice and have a season pass. I think it really nice. They have things sectioned off with different themes depending on where on the earth the animals come from. I dont really see how anyone can say it has too little imagination or information. It really focuses on teaching you things, but not in a kiddy way. Well, I take that back. Dont waste your time watching the "4D" movie upstairs, and its at least $5 and is all cartoons teaching you to respect the ocean and not pollute. I was really excited thinking I was going to get to see 3D kelp forests and stuff, and I was really wrong. Other than that, its really impressive. Exhibits change from time to time, so each trip is fun for me. Im about to check into getting a behind the scenes tour for $50 as I would like to see all the equipment. Do a search for the atl aquarium on here, and you will get a photo tour courtesy of one of our members here.

Oh, the coolest part has to be the coral tank. Its hard to describe but its a huge, very tall tank that curves back over your head. A wave comes from out of site and washes over your head and towards the reef. It feels like you are in the ocean looking at a wall of a reef with surf crashing overhead. If you are thinking about coming to the ATL to see it, there are plenty of other attractions in the area as well.

HTH

The NY Times doesn't understand that it is a brand new aquarium with a lot of future plans and growth.

Give it some time.

The NY Times is a rag and should take a walk through the NY Aquarium. The NY Aquarium is no prize.

Does anyone know what that thread was. I looked at it before and can't find it now. My search never works.

Id like to see a poll or thread where people list their 'Favorite Public Aquariums in North America'. Ive only been to a handful, but Im always looking for a new one to visit.

Good or bad, Im eager to see the new ATL complex.

happy reefin'
