HELP! Nitrites rising

I did a water change last night. before the change my water numbers were : nitrate 40, nitrite 0, ammonia 0, ph 8.2. the tank initially had 2 fiji damsels 1", i added 1 harlequin tusk 2", 1 clown trigger 1.5", 1 blue line trigger 2" on thursday. this morning my nirate 40, nitrite 30, amonia .25,. what could be causing the sudden rise in numbers? please help. my tank is a 46 bow.. i'm thinking that i need more lr.. also i noticed that my skimmer hasn't been skimming to much.

How long has the tank been set up? If its a new tank and it just finished cycling then you could have increased the bioload on the tank too quickly and you are getting another cycle/mini cycle.

its been up for a little over a month? i plan on tanking the damsels and the blue line to the store today, plus another water change.. my clown trigger seemed a little slow this morning. do u think that once i take the blue line trigger and damsels out along with another water change that everything will be ok

It may be ok but ideally I would remove all fish from the tank and quarantine them and let the tank re-cycle. That will only help in the long run. It will create more bacteria to help break down the ammonia and nitrite faster so when you add more fish, it wont happen again.
