Kalk reactors - how do they work?

Lately I've been looking into a kalk reactor. I have a few questions :

1) How is it that precipitate does not get into the drip?

2) Do they maintain the Ca level enough for SPS that dosing isn't required?

Thanks.

The output line is at the top of the reactor. This keeps the powder at the bottom of the reactor and only the kalk solution at the top. Mine has maintained calcium for my tank but my corals are not very big. I do have a lot of sps but they are still frag size. I have been happy with my DIY reactor and it's one less thing I have to worry about so I can enjoy my tank more! Good luck.
