Terminate Turbo?
Something is wrong with one of my Turbos. Last night, I noticed that he fell. So I placed him back on the glass and left the room. When I came back, he had fell again. This went on three or four times until I gave up and just left him on the sandbed. Today, I notice that something is wrong with his foot. It curls. The snail can't even move on the sandbed. All of the other snails in my tank are fine. My temperature is 81 degrees F, nitrites are at 0, nitrates are at 0, and specific gravity is between 1.024 and 1.025 using a refractometer. Should I terminate this Turbo?

I have asked the same thing about a HUGE turbo I had once. It did the same thing where it fell a few times then just stopped moving and died. I was advised to leave it in there if I had Hermits and let them do the dirty work. There were some that said I should remove it.
I left it in and all sorts of animals came out of the sand to clean the shell. The bug shell is still sitting in there empty and clean.

Thanks for the input. I have nothing in the tank except the snails as of now. Is there no chance the turbo will get better?

Really? I got the snails last Monday. Everything was fine until last night. If it were shock, wouldn't this have happened sooner?

If by chance you are letting your tank cycle. The death of the snail will actually help the cycle along.

Nope. My tank has been running since February. The snail is still alive and seems restless. It's trying to movie but the back of its foot seems paralyzed.

I acclimated for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I used a dixie cup to take water out of the bag and then add tank tank water. I did this every 15 minutes.

lol. Cutie. I acclimate mine slowly and correctly and now one is paralyzed. You throw yours across the room and don't acclimate and they thrive. Damn you! lol.

It could have been temp. Turbos are cool water snails and usually have a short life span in normal reef temps.

You don't say if you have any fish stock yet, but when you do, I would advise replacing your snail with a Fighting conch (Strombus alatus). They are much hardier, long lived and excellent detrius eaters. You only need 1 per 2 sq ft, ie total of 4 for your tank, maybe 3 as you have other Turbo and Astrea snails. They are totally safe with all other marine creatures, including corals. They don't have to be rescued if they tip over, and can withstand attacks from Hermit crabs.
