PH probe

I got a aquacontroler jr. I read somewere here that you shouldn't submerge the probe all the way in the water. Well my instructions didnt say not to. Im wondering if i did any damage to it buy submerging it. Its been under water for about a month. I pulled it up abit now but it still reads the same. I have a calibration 7 and 10 on the way. Why would they make something for a aquarium that can't get wet?
