do you need ozone

Do you have to have ozone on your tank? Mine broke after 10 years. Not bad. So I went to buy one my local shop that I have been going to for years. And he did not want to sell it to me. He said look online.

I dont have one,but the few people i know that have it, the tanks look amazingly clear. also, depending on the types of corals you want to keep. softies, and leathers like "dirtier" more nutrient rich water, as sps demand very clean polished water. and if combining sps and lps it is a must with all the chemical warefare that can occur. i am acutally online right now placing my order for a red sea 100 mg deluxe unit.

I just introduce Ozone into my tank a month ago. The results are amazing. The water has never been clearer. The extension of my polyps on my SPS and LPS is amazing.

My algea problem has also starting to die off. I wonder why I waited this long.

I have a 50 Sander Ozone generator and a Milwaukee probe. Dont run ozone without a Probe controller. Thats just my opinion.

I’m looking at the red sea 200 or 300. I not sure which one to go with. But when you control it with a probe, do you get a larger unit then you need? Cause you can monitor it. I never ran my tank without ozone. I have not seen anything different in the tank. But the water is not as clear. Over the past 3 days I have an octopus running everything. So I’m ok with the probe. But do you get a 200 or 300 for a 200gl tank? Ti y do you say you don’t need it. I would like to know. thanks

No, you do not need ozone. I have kept my reef in fine condition for years with out it but last month I added a 200mg/hr unit and I will never have a tank without it now. The results are great as mentioned in the quote above. As for having super clean water for sps, that is not 100% true. More and more I have been reading that keeping a moderate load of fish with sps corals actually enhances color and growth. Don’t get me wrong you need clean water but not super clean. I myself keep 18 fish in a dominant sps 180 gallon tank and have not had a problem with my corals health. I also have a lot of LPS corals with no instance of coral warfare. Ok I am getting off topic here. If you are going to get ozone I do not recommend the redsea ozone unit. I would get an enaly unit which has a built in air pump. Its a lot cheaper than the redsea and does the same thing and you won’t have to buy a air pump. You should also have an ORP controller and a protein skimmer that can efficiently process ozone into your system or your house will smell like a copy machine room.

welli have ordered a ASM G-3 skimer and was planning on running the redsea ozone 100 mg/hr deluxe with the air drier and the orp controllerand probe. just dial in the orp and the rea se does the rest. my only experience is what i have read online, and what my LFS uses (the red sea). i would love to search these topics, but it seems the search bar now is forever overloaded

In the past I had very successful tanks with out ozone. Now I use ozone and I feal that it is a great asset. Just rember the greater the water clarity, the greater the light penatration. One of its greatest assets is that one of the buy products of ozone when it oxidises is OXYGEN and we a know how important that is!
