Where to put my Ballast?

I have a 180 Gallon tank and all the equipment is underneath the tank. I have an HQI ballast that supports 2 400W bulbs and I'm trying to figure out where to put it to minimize heat going into the tank. I'm thinking of putting it on top of the canopy, but that seems dangerous. I'm also thinking of running the wires between the bulbs and the ballast all the way to my garage, but the wires would have to be about 50'.

Any ideas?

It's an in-wall tank that splits the living room and dining room and there's no nearby closet or anything to put it in, and I don't have a basement or crawlspace.
