Help!!
I just noticed that my sailfin tang's top dorsal fin is split in multiple places. This must have happened in the last day--what could cause this? Water parameters are all good, and he's never had any conflict with the other fish. (Flame hawkfish and a 6 line wrasse)
I feed brine or mysis shrimp daily, suplemented with formula 2 flake food. |

That's a fight with something---could even be a crab, but I'd suspect the wrasse...the culprit could have a ding or two, this being a tang.
I once happened into our national aquarium when THEY were having a bad day: fish stew in the piranha tank. Seems piranha get along pretty well as a community until the water temperature rises or someone goes into mating-mode. And these were huge---for piranha. The end result was a couple of fat survivors and a couple of thousand gallons of floating pieces. Moral of the tale: sometimes fish get along fine, until a disagreement escalates into mayhem---and after that, hard to say: it's been my experience that once a fight starts, it may break out more than once. Keep an eye out.
