Waterproofing a temp probe?

How do I waterproof a Ranco temperature probe? I know lots of people are using the Ranco Controller. A search did not help much.

My controller is an Aqualogic which is the same as Ranco and they both use the same probe. I called Aqualogic and they sell the Titanium encased probed for $55 shipped. Ebay sells the regular Ranco probe for $19 shipped. Aqualogic told me that the Ranco stock probe will last only weeks if its submersed in saltwater.

cthetoy,

being running it for more than then a year, close to two and all is fine, checks fine with my other temp meters,

when I inspect it, it look sealed to me,

anyway, I would check with diyreefs that might help,

as for the 55 shipped, please thats close to what I pay for my dual controller

good luck,

sam

The stock Ranco probe is fine in saltwater and has been used for years that way.
I put a little silicone around the area where the wire enters the plastic tip, but I'm not sure thats even needed.
