is coral bleaching?
i got a few sps coral about 4 weeks ago. it looks like the base of one of the corals is dying. it looks like that you can see the white skeleton. would this be the start of bleaching? if so is there a way to stop it? or is the coral starting to die? there are plenty of polyps on it and are out all of the time. the coral looks healthy just the base looks like it is receeding. all water parameters are well in range, no temp flucuation. please help.

sounds like either RTN or STN bleaching will normally occur from the tips down.
try increasing the flow around the coral. do you have any pics? does it look like the fleshy parts are coming off?

IME not enough flow is a culprit. or there may be some sort of infection. keep an eye on it might want to consider doing a dip with the coral. either lugol's dip or one of the commercial ones out there. if it keeps getting worse you might need to cut the coral ahead of the recession to try and save it.
