foam after adding sand?
I added the OldCastle sand to my tank today. There is a lot of frothy foam on the surface of the water. Is this normal? Thanks.

It just means you didn't rinse it. IMO, it would have been much better to rinse it. If you have a skimmer, that will help to clean it up. Also a canister filter like a magnum will help.

I got that even after rinsing pretty well. No problem. It will disipate. You can probably skim it off by hand if you're impatient.

I did skim some of it off. I was told not to rinse it because the smaller size particles would aid in the dsb.

I used a hang on filter to skim junk off when I setup my tank

Find a friend that will give you a cup or two of live sand from their tank and in a couple of days you will be crystal clear. You can skim the foam off he top or lay a piece of newspaper or paper towel on top and it will absorb it. Good call on not rinsing the sand, you critters will love you for that.

Add some filter floss to a filter sock at the sump return, works real good. I wouldn't want all that gunk in my skimmer pumps, been there before.
