How to remove a musroom from button polyp colony
I have a green button polyp colony in my tank but as the colony arived i realised that a 4 cm diameter *(more than 1 inch) mushroom is attached inside the colony and the mushroom disturbs near polyps as it ups when the lights are on.
Is there any way of removing the mushroom from there to put it another safer place or any suggestions about leaving it where it is|? thanks |

You could take a new, sharp razor blade and slice him off at the base. Get some bridal veil netting from the local craft store, and use the netting to loosely secure him to a different rock. Rubber bands are good for holding the netting in place. In a week or two, he will have attached himself to his new rock and you can remove the netting.
Option 2: Get a tall plastic container, like the ones that deli potato salad comes in, but taller. cover the inside bottom with rock rubble. Cut the shroom loose, and let him sit on the rock rubble in a low flow area of your tank. In a week or two, he will attach. Then take the rock he has attached to, and use super glue gel to glue it to another rock in your tank.

If you cut it off it will regrow from even the smallest piece left on the rock.
If you really want it gone, cut it off and then chisel off the rock area it was on. Easier said than done, I'm sure, as I just thought of this solution. I personally will never put another mushroom in my tank as they spread like weeds and, as you found out, irritate most other corals. Good luck TimO |

Fast Fred Has good advice on mounting your cut-off pesty mushroom, except in your story the ending could be credit at your LFS.

I cut it of and put it into another place in the tank, the main part is trying to cover himself. Getting bigger and bigger each day on another emty LR.
My polyp colony getting better and better now except 1-2 loss where the mushroom was. But the bad thing is that i have 2 little mushrooms appeared on the place where the oldest was. I didnt know that mushrooms are like Aiptasia.. worth to think about mushrooms in reef tanks.. Thank you for all help and advice again. |

that's funny. same thing happend to me. about 9 months ago. it's still on the button polyp rock. 90% of the time, mushroom is completely covering the button polyps, but i saw today that they are all alive, while the mushroom was shriveled up, they opened up partially. i'm gonna go cut mine up too i guess.
