Skimmer recomendation?

I am in the process of building a 26"x24"x24" cube-ish reef. Right now I have a 29G and a 10G and both have HOB skimmers. I haven't really done much research on in-sump skimmers, so I thought I would get a few opinions. The sump will be designed around the skimmer, so the footprint is not important. The owner of a local LFS recommended the ASM G1X and I agree that it looks like a good choice. I am looking to keep the price under $250. I also checked out the Blem Euroreef ES5-24 on h2otropicals.com, but I have read mixed reviews about Euroreef. Can anyone recommend a good skimmer for my new system? Thanks.

Nick

For under $250 those are really your only two decent choices IMO. I have an ES6-1 and I would'nt recommend it for anything over a 50 gallon. FWIW....the ASM will basically be the same(not sure of the pump or dimensions on that one) but I'm sure Dave knows more about those. You might check out the DAS skimmers but I'm not sure if any are that inexpensive.

Aqua C makes good quality skimmers as well, but the Urchin Pro is the only Aqua C model under $250. It's enough for a moderately stocked tank of that size. They are easy to tune and made of good quality materials.

If you can stretch your budget a little bit, I highly recommend H&S 110-F2000 for $379.99. The German made AquaBee needlewheel pump is quiet, very efficient, uses hardly any electricity 18W, and doesn't hardly put any heat back into the water like the China made pumps.

I would rather stay away from the AquaC skimmers. I had a Remora w/ MJ1200 on my 29G for almost a year and it was a POS. The skimmer before the Remora was a Prizm and it performed much better.

The H&S 110-F2000 is an in-sump model and the A110-F2000 is the recirculating model. Both is said to perform equally well, but IMO, recirculating skimmers performs better because of the longer foaming contact time.
