Why does ozone make skimmers and socks black?
I started using ozone 2 months ago. Now I am seeing a lot of black matter in my filter socks, skimmer cup and in my clear hoses. When I shut the ozone off the black socks turn their normal brownish color. Anyone know why this happens?

I'm going to bump this again. My socks always turn black when the ozone is on. I even see it in my clear tubing that runs to my chiller, so much so that the clear hoses are black now. I can't see how I could be the only one that has this. Do any of you notice a difference when you run ozone?

Can you smell ozone at all in the room where your tank is?
I don't run ozone but it sounds like you have so much ozone that it is traveling through the system and oxidizing compounds traveling through the tube, etc. JMUO (just my uneducated opinion) |

No, I was cautious of that when I set it up, so I bought test strips that I check with in the cabinet and an ozone test kit for the water. I run the return water thru carbon and have a check valve on the skimmer air inlet. I was surprised that a lot of people don't test their set ups.

Alright, sounds like you are keeping safe which is definately a good thing.
Good luck with your ozone.. I've never ran it myself and haven't really looked into it much. |
