I though the 1200 was more flow than I wanted. FWIW I have used both the the RIO and maxi-jet on my backpak and have been happy with both. I think the bigger rio's have more issues than the smaller

Mine came with a Rio 600, and I have also tried the Rio 800 and MJ1200 w/ venturi. In my opinion, the Rio 800 and MJ1200 worked about the same, but the Rio is quieter than the MaxiJet. Make sure, whether Rio or Maxijet, to get the venturi (Rio 800RVT, or the addon venturi kit for the MaxiJet)

FWIW, I've been running a backpak on and off for two years. I love it. It gets slammed quite a bit, but I found a sweet spot on mine and I can run it wet or dry. I'm running a MJ1200 with a prefilter box on a 55 quarantine tank and love it

I am running prepping a 55g and will run two backpaks. the one has a MJ1200 and the other has none, hense the pump question. I also will be running the overflow box. I have only run the BP with the 600 so I was wanting to get a more effecient pump to circulate more water.

go with the 1200 then if you are looking for the movement and do not mind a little extra noise.

I have the 1200 and I really don't think it's all that loud.
