pulsing zythia dying?
My pulsing zythia has been slow disapearing when before it was taking over the tank and I have had to cut it back in the past. It is doing ok in the refuge but not in the main display. I have a slightly elevated amonia level and have done many h2o changes but it is almost non existant which has to do with the amonia level because it is dying and I am having trouble with my frogspawn too it is not doing well. Everything else in the tank is doing great any sugesstions. I can give more info if needed. Thanks in advance for the imput. Mike

What kind of salt do you use? Have you changed brands? Checked iodine level? How large are the WC's you are doing? Def have to get the NH3 under control.

have been using using reef crystals. And have been doing H20 changes every week about 40 gallons. I have a 125 gallon tank. I think that the things that are dying are keeping the nh3 going and not able to keep up with it. It is barely dectectable on the test but I am having an out break of algea(red slime) right now. COuld it be the dsb that everyone is talking about that breaks down over a period of time? My tank has been set up for 3 years now? Mike

If you are refering to cyano it prob is feeding from PO4. You using RO/DI water for the changes? Do you have high NO3? Have you tested your fresh SW before a WC?

Flames are a risk but it would not cause the NH3

My fish have been with the tank for the past 3 year and no problems. I do use ro/di h2o and have had no problems with a 0 reading on the tds meter with all new filter 4 months ago, except for the ro filter. I have an idea that the constant dwinding of the xylthia is causing the spike in the nh3. I have had a problem with the soap from the washing machine(don't ask) that got into the tank 6 weeks ago that I survived without anything dying. Everything else is doing fine except for what I had mentioned. Could it be the dsb leaching out like I have heard from some people or what. I can provide more info just ask. Thanks Mike
