That's what I'm doing with mine.
I have a carbon insert cartridge from an aquaclear 70 stuffed into the intake chamber. LR ruble and chaeto in the bigger chamber. I took off the lid so it can get light from tank. I've got pods, tiny brittle stars and stuff growing off that. It gets me by while I'm building sump.

Hi ... cracking my first post here. I'm planning on doing about the same thing. I wanna put a small (~20G) tank in my classroom ... yes I'm a teacher.
The idea is to have 1 HOB as a fuge and 1 as a filter. Would it work? Thanks! P.s. Apologies to the OP for highjacking, but it's kinda along the same lines so I thought it would be ok ![]() |

That's fine teggs, welcome to RC.
Love to help teachers especially when I can. That's so cool you're doing this for your class. I use the biggest aquaclear, a 110. For a 20 you could get by with this, just make sure it gets some light. Some people use some type of clip on if tank lights can't do it. Of course it would be nice to have a real fuge. Some people may donate old equipment for a school. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, a couple small powerheads for circulation might be better than second aquaclear

Thanks Davo and nemo!
I actually already have a tank in my class. It used to be a small planted community, but I was getting bored of that so I changed it to a brackish setup with a figure 8 puffer. The marine tank is for a pair of clowns with a few cool inverts ... you know how kids like nemo! Later... |
