how long have you had your tank? cuz i think leathers are hard to take care of... IMO, polyps should be your first coral..

Had the tank for 4 months. Just transfered everything to my new 50 Gallon Tank. The LFS said it would'nt be too hard. Now your starting to worry me.

they are fairly hardy, because its a new tank , just add your nutrients to the reef that it needs.

I bought a finger leather for one of my firsts. It didn't end up looking how it looked in the lfs's tank for a few months, but this was because I still had issues with phosphates and some nitrates. If your water is good you should be ok. They are very hardy corals and can come back from months of not looking great. Mine looked blue and shrunken for about a month before I got a euro-reef skimmer and my problems were solved. It blew up in size and started to polyp and I was much happier.

About their diet I wouldn't worry about adding anything. They may need minute amounts of food compared to what they get from the light, but your tank can probably produce enough by itself.

Finger leathers are usually pretty easy. You don't need metal halides but you do need something with a reef friendly spectrum whether it be standard reef fluorescents, compacts or metal halides.

The water should be moving a bit and a little added plankton once in awhile would be nice since your setup is probably too new to provide much particulate food on its own. But don't lose sleep over it.

Relax and enjoy your new pet.

Leathers (with the exception of yellow leathers) are very easy to care for. I would put them right under shrooms and brown/green zoos.
