Me and a buddy went to use it for some DIY Rock and just cracked the lid and everyone was gagging in the whole apartment. It took about 30 minutes for the smell to die down to a managable level. Seriously, you probably had to be there, but it was 100x worse than any dead anemone, snail, scallop, clam, mussel, etc. I've smelled dead animals that smelled better than that.
Yeah, it was absolutely horrible!

Curing un-cured live rock is by far the worst. I cured 250 lbs of rock in my basement. I actually puked when doing the first couple of water changes

I absolutely hate the snail "sniff test." Is it dead or alive? **Sniff sniff** Oh God! It's dead......and I wish I was too!

Zenzence is right on. Amquel + smells like rotten eggs, sulphur, and the bathroom after my hysband's been in there for 45 minutes. I spilled that stuff on the living room carpet and I thought he was going to leave me...

The worst smell I've ever had in my tank was when my sea hare died. He was pretty good sized (at least 4 inches, and they are pretty fat). When he died, the whole house smelled like death, and that was before I even took it out of the tank. When it was finally taken out...lets just say it wasn't pleasent.

I would have to agree. Had a bucket sit in my basement for about 1yr (totally forgot about it). Threw-up BIG time when I went to trow it out.

Also, the half-alive starfish leftovers from my Harlequin Shrimps.

None of you know the true meaning of foul(except humuhumunuku) until you smell the dead and rotting carcass of a sea hare. Please have someone notify you when theirs dies and then go smell it fresh out of the tank after it's been dead for a few days. You'll come back to this thread and laugh at all the other options/opinions.

Gee, it's nice to know what I have to look forward to in keeping a reef! Anybody care to post a poll?

since i just set up my aquarium, gonna have to say that so far it is all that green and yellow sludge in the p/s cup. Fear factor should find a way to incorporate it into their show. I would watch
