Moving tanks?
Well, Today is the big move day for me. I'm finally (after months of doing no work on it, testing, etc) going to move my 10 gallon tank to the 10 gallon tank I drilled w/ a 20 sump/fuge.
In my 10 that is set up I have alot of corals, snails, cleaner shrimp, and 2 percs. I was using reef crystals salt in the current tank, but will be making the water w/ tropic marin pro salt for the new tank. I know everything I need to do, and seed my new sandbed, etc. But, how do I go about acclimating the fish and corals to the new water? Do I just make sure temps and salinity are matching, and say close enought? Or should I really take all my corals, etc, and acclimate them to the new water? The acclimation thing would take forever since my tank is completely stocked to the max w/ corals. Anyone ever just make new water w/ salt to move tanks (bigger one perhaps) and just dump the livestock/corals in? Thanks Stewie |

Bump.
Move time is quickly approaching. I have the tanks setup w/ the sand in it, and the water mixing. Anyone help me out? Thanks Stewie |

I think I would start by keeping everything in the old tank and slowly changing (Acclimating) over to the new salt. In your case with a 10g tank I would probably do 1/2g change a day with the new salt.
After about 2 weeks of that I think that you would be safe to transfer everything over to the new tank. But make sure all of the parameters in the new tank match the old tank. Ron

If you can use around 60% of the old water then you should be ok. Take out some of the water from the old tank and put it in the new mixed with your new solution, and over time slowly switch to your tropic marine. Good luck

Thanks guys.. both are good ideas. I think i'll probably go with the 40/60 idea. Although the other idea is a good one too. Maybe I'll just flip a coin to decide which one I should do lol.
Thanks again. Stewie |
