Fresh Garlic

Is it better to feed fish fresh chopped garlic rather than soaking their food in something like Garlic Xtreme by Kent? Thanks.

I have always been told that garlic, like onions, quickly loses a lot of it's goodness after it's been crushed, so I like to use fresh stuff

..or you could not worry about it at all. Garlic has not been proven to really do much at all other than possibly stimulate appetite.

Chicken soup is supposed to cure colds too, but there is no proof that it actually works. It tastes pretty good though

It couldn't hurt. Even my corals like it. Personally I find a bowl of really, really hot chili will cure the common cold, or at least leave you much happier about it.

Actualy the theory is an ingredient in garlic extract, Allicin (Diallyl thiosulphate) not the garlic itself, inhibits the chemical "sensor" of the free floating stage of the ich parasite preventing it from finding a host.

No scientific studies have been done yet to prove it one way or the other.

I know that there is no proof that garlic gets rid of ICH but I am a believer. I use finely chopped fresh and let the food soak in it over night.

In other words getting the fish to eat garlic is not the theropy to pursue, add garlic extract directly to the water in small doses.

I know when I add garlic to the fish food the fish go nuts over it and my close brain tenticles will come out when the light are on. Usually the tenticles only come out when the lights are off!

Ya garlic seems to cause feeding responses in animals. The extract to the water theropy is for fighting ich.

I add cloves of whole garlic to my home made mush. Garlic has a lot of vitamins in it and many health benifits for humans, so I dont see why it cant help aquatic life. I also add fresh whole garbonzos for greens.

I use fresh garlic to soak my food in. When a piece of garlic makes its way in to the tank(not intentionally) my skunk shrimp devours it immediately. You won't see him, add some garlic food, and he sprints out to find it. The fish love it, not harm to anything else.
